About our Trip....

We will be leaving on Monday, January 26th for a trip around the world…heading East. The first leg will be on Continental Airlines to Brussels, then on to Antwerp to board our “tramp steamer”, the freighter Rickmers Jakarta (http://www.shipphoto.net/rickmers%20jakarta.htm or http://shumsw3.tripod.com/rickmers/rickmersjakarta050914.jpg or http://www.rickmers.com/index.php?id=489&uid=36 for photos and more information about the ship).

From Antwerp we are off to Genoa, then through the Suez Canal and on to China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and Singapore (not necessarily in that order) with a possible stop in India as well. Then it’s across the Pacific with possible stops in California, through the Panama Canal, and then to Houston where we will disembark, and fly East to get home to Pennsylvania.

Our ship carries a maximum of 8 passengers, usually less than that. The projected duration of our voyage is 90 days, but can be longer or shorter since the ship’s ports of call, true to the ‘tramp steamer” tradition, vary according to the demands for its services.

Anyone who wants to follow our journey can do so by using the following steps:

  1. Click this link: http://www.rickmers-linie.com/index.php?id=343&L=2
  2. Click on “more >>” in the Ship Position Box
  3. Click the “Asset Map” Tab under the “Map” tab
  4. Scroll all the way down to “Rickmers Jakarta” in the “Asset List” box and click

A map of the world with the ship’s position in green will appear.

All the best to you and yours.

Anne Marie and Mal
